Ric, that's an awesome looking milksnake!!! Simply gorgeous! Is this species some kinda endangered that you are not allowed to catch it or possess it anymore? Also, do you know the scientific name for it?
Thanks,

here is a pic of hondurans from your line
WOWWWWWWWWW
you must mean law of your state Ric. The law of Kansas is still with hunting license 5 reptiles of various species not on a list and up to 5 each of any species not on a list.
-----
Please let me know if I am wrong. Thanks...Ric
Not as of last year with nothing changing to my knowledge. Your out of state hunting permit is around $75 and with the limits on my last post. And there is no permit needed for just photographing as it has been tested in court now. The only law pending is the " exotic " animals that is going to include venomous and all crocodiles, caimans, alligators.

out of State that you needed a completed hunter safety course to hunt snakes in Kansas. Is that true. That would make it impossible to get a license unless you had a week to stay there and take the course. Thanks...Ric
Ric,
You can take hunter safety in your own state and only if you were born after July 1, 1957 (I think that's the date). You just need to possess one from any state.
Beautiful snake, from around the most common hunting grounds for them in central Kansas I am guessing.
That was worded a bit awkardly, to clarify, you only need hunter's safety to get a license if born after that date.
I took the Kansas Hunter Safety Course in Junction City, Kansas in 1974 or 1975 because at that time they would NOT honor other state's courses. Which was a pain in the butt for Military personnel stationed in Kansas. I also ended up getting my Arizona Hunter Safety # in 1991 here in Prescott, AZ.
In 2004 when I applied on-line for the out-of-state Kansas hunting license they were accepting out-of-state courses. I had lost my original Kansas Hunter Safety card years ago, but by entering my SS# on the KWD site I was able to get my original Kansas Hunter Safety card #. And the last 2 years the non-resident hunting license was a little over $70. That is for an annual as they don't sell temporary non-resident hunting licenses BUT they do sell temporary non-rersident fishing license. I believe a 3-day non-resident fishing license is still under $30.
Going again this spring as my mom still lives by Milford Lake.

Kerby...
3 years ago 2 out of staters got hunting permits with no questions asked about a hunter safety course. it WAS explained to the hunting retail department that these license were non-game ( i know no difference ) and non-weapon. They were sold to them and we DID have an encounter with wildlife that only wanted to see license. Maybe because they ( wildlife ) figured out if they had the license the place they got them from was current on regs ? The issue never came up while being interrogated on the hunters safety course.

The retailer who sold the hunting license IS REQUIRED to see proof (card) that the individual has taken a Hunter Safety Course. They (retailer) could loose their ability to sell licenses in the future. They are definitely wrong.... but is the hunter who is not familiar with the Kansas requirement guilty if he is sold a hunting license without a Hunter Safety Course? Don't know...........???

...he/she could be held liable. The legal principle, even though its application doesn't seem right in some circumstances, is "ignorance of the law is no excuse."
But this is a field forum so I guess that's all I'll say on that...
Mike,
I was unaware of the court case-- do you know the name of the case/where it was tried and what the facts were? Thanks-- Matt
Thanks Ric,
What a great Gentilis. You know I love your photos but that Gentilis is better looking then the photo is showing us. Unbelievable looking in hand. And I don't really care for albinos that much.
Thanks again,
Dell Despain
Wow, Ric!! I think it needs to come visit Dell and I up here in Montana! Thanks for posting it.
-Cole
Incredible, you are soooo lucky!! Nice pic too, but why does it look like it still has pigmintation were the black bands would be, shouldn't it be white?
is. Could it be something with being either T-negative or T-positive? It has very red eyes. You guy's let me know either way. I as well as a couple of others have called it an albino. Let's put it up for debate. What do you all think? Ric
Yes, but that doesn't usually happen to hondos until there adults. I was just looking at some albino pyros and it looked similar, can we see some more pics, PLEASE!
I'm going to need a better look, why don't you send him to me so I can examine closer and we'll work out the price later!!
J/K HaHaHa
some of you may have already seen this. The orange has changed alot. Thanks....Ric

Yes,in that pic is much clearer that it is albino. I'm sure you wouldn't of called it that if it wasn't! Hard to tell in that first pic though unless you saw it in person.
Looks T positive to me, like there is some brownish pigment where the black would be. Beautiful snake etiher way.

“There is a grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that whilst this planet has gone on cycling according to the fixed laws of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.” -C. Darwin, 1859
I'm confused are you guys trying to say that the Gentilis is not an albino? I'm not really into albinos, they all look pink and pastel to me, Yuk. Just kidding, sort of. It looks albino to me. Help me out what would you call it if not albino?
Dell Despain
Well, Dell we were discusing whether or not it was an albino(no dark pigment) because if it has a little pigment were the black banding would be it might be hypomelanistic(minimal pigment). I think it's albino though, maybe a lavender albino.
For give me for my ignorance but, if it has pigment on the bands wouldn't you call this particular snake extreme hypo?
I still think it looks albino, but I'm not an albino person. Seems like alot of splitting of hairs. I can see why Ric would say "I'll let you guys work it out".
Thanks for your time.
Dell Despain
The first pic caught my eye but you can tell it has been photo shoped lighter. Look at the gravel, this will make certain transclucent colors appear. The second pic is better, you can tell it's just albino. Look at "Captive Bred Tricolors" albino pyros, there very similar. His refined hypos "sentz" line are closer to extreme. It took breeding selected hypos together over many years to refine the honduran extreme hypo into what it is today. I don't think you would find that in the wild!
The dark bands seem to have some melanin! I'd be leaning more towards some type of Hypomelanism!
What a gorgeous snake! and pure to boot...
