phiber_optikx Dec 06, 2005 02:31 AM

Has anyone ever been? I am wondering if it is worth the 2-4 hour trip. Thanks!

The STL show on Lemay Ferry (other side of I-55) allows smoking by the vendors (yuck) but Exotic ARC (sponsor) has a GREAT selection of snakes at reasonable prices. It's a crap shoot on whether other vendors are there or not, and it's more of a biker crowd (I think). Probably better worth your time to contact ARC, arrange a show price, and go to their store (Lemay Ferry near Union, I think).

The Bridgeton show is more lizards than snakes, but there's no smoking. Depending on who's there, you can get decent selection.

Good luck,

Walt

I'm a cop in ST. Louis. I was at a Bridgeton show and a 17 year old kid tried to steal a BEAUTIFUL bearded dragon. He got caught by the owner, and I hear "what do we do with shoplifters?" so I identify myself as a cop and ask if I can help. So, I get over to the little track star (that's for-shadowing) and ask him his name and what happened. He's all nervous and wanting to know if he was going to jail, and at that point, I didn't know if he was or not. Anyway, I get his name and SSN and home address, and he takes off. Here I am standing there with a corn snake in a cage (just had her sexed, she's the mystery corn pictured below) and this track star takes off running. I gently put the snake down and take off after him. In the parking lot, he's got 100 yards on me, easy, but someone was pulling up to go to the show. I tell them I'm a cop tryin' to get this kid, they tell me to hop in the SUV and they'll drive me. We catch up to him, he ran out of his shoes and was in his socks. So, I jump on him, wait for the Bridgeton cops to show up (which they did not 15 seconds later). All for a $100 dragon. Gotta testify next month to it.

Anyway, I really like the Bridgeton show. There's a lot there, some GREAT deals on mice and bedding and such, and some beautiful animals. Plus, the doc from Ferguson Animal Clinic is always there. He's the best herp vet in the state, personal opinion. Sounds like you are in the Columbia/Kingdom City area, and yes, I think it'd be worth it for you, especailly if you need tanks/mice/bedding/bulbs/hides/water dishes. I've got my eye on a few sand boas personally. Gotta do the wedding thing first. I won't be at the one that's December 17th. The fiancee and I are going to her lake house and hit the outlet mall. Should be a good show though. Enjoy.

Actually I am in Joplin in Jasper County. Columbia is about as far from me as KC is All I am really interested in is N. American colubrids particularly ratsnakes and cornsnakes. So as long as they have a good snake collection it would be worth it.

There are a TON of corns there, that I can promise you. Some really good deals on them too. If you have money to buy and are looking to do so, you'll walk out of there with more corns that you thought, I'd wager. Joplin is more than two hours from STL though. Watch your speed, I hear 44 is crawling with state troopers looking for drug runners.

I think you mean over two hours to KC, not STL. STL is on the other side of the state, about 300 miles from Joplin.

Also, Phiber, you REALLY need to check out Exotic ARC if you want a wide selection. At their show they have like two or more tables filled, with deli cups piled like 5-6 high. They only do the Lemay Ferry (STL) show. If you can put up with the stink (smoke), check out that one. Just don't expect a lot from some of the other vendors.

You are right, 2 hours to KC. It's about 4 1/2 hours to St. Louis. Is it still worth it? When is there a show? Once a month, every six months, anually? Thanks for all the info.

The Exotic ARC show is like every other month. The Bridgeton show is less often, but I hear there is one Dec 17th, I think. You can click on "events" at the top of the page.
