breeding question for lack of a better title

FRFGHTR9141 Dec 06, 2005 08:15 PM

Hi,
My male and female sambavas are just over a year now and have reached a good size for breeding so today i put them together and it was a half success. Now I say that for this reason, the female and male both show great signs of receptivity, however the male has yet to actually move in on the female despite the coloration and head bobbing he is doing. They have been together for about 8 hrs now and im just curious if maybe im not being patient enough or what. This is their first time together, anyone have any insite as to why the male isnt copulating with the female?
Thanks
Jason

CANADIAN CHAMELEONS

Generally, the male chameleon will go after the female as soon as he realizes its a female and instinctually knows what to do.

However, I have seen the odd male chameleon try to mate facing the wrong way and have also come across the odd one that will not mate at all. (I have seen the odd female chameleon that will not mate with any males too.)

Often the male chameleons that won't mate at all are the more docile ones when being handled in my experience. The ones that are more aggressive to handle seem to be the ones that mate quickest with the female.

Nope Will, no luck yet, I changed a bit of the way i was feeding him schedule wise. Thought that might have something to do with it and since i have done that i have noticed his coloration to be much more intense so im hopeful
