Can't ID Snake in Tampa, FL, US

rsessums Dec 06, 2005 09:32 PM

We found this snake a few weeks ago in our back yard in a fairly dense neighborhood. We are in Tampa, FL. Can somebody ID this guy? I THINK it's a corn snake, but I just can't make myself certain after looking at identification resources. I appreciate anyone's help on this!

Thank you,

Rich

P.S. The snake (Kip) is dead in the photos - he died yesterday in spite of all we did to try to take care of him.

Thank you! I've seen a bunch of black racers in my yard so this makes sense. They sure look different as kids!

There are a few snakes that look totally different from the adults as youngsters. Pretty much all the racers & coachwhips..also the eastern indigo. Cottonmouths & watersnakes are much brighter & more clearly patterned as neonates than as adults.
