too much d3?

alreynolds2003 Jul 23, 2003 03:14 PM

what are signs of d3 overdose.... my chameleon has a horizontal line on his belly towards over about half of his stomach on each side, he has been displaying darker colors too, and when he sleeps he still has darker colors, im thinking he's getting stressed i'm trying to narrow down the factors, its a veiled cham - 3.5 months old and he has a 83 degree temp w/ appx 50 % humidity a 100w basking lamp and a reptisun 5.0. i dont handle him much and i cannot think of why he is stressing, any ideas would be greatful

There should be a temp gradient in the cage
The basking spot should be more like 90 with a veiled
The cool spots should be in upper 70's (near bottom or in plants)
I would give calcium with d3 about 2 to 3 times a week and vitamins once a week.

I don't think there is any connection between color and D3. An overdose of vitamins would be more likely to show in eye problems, tongue problems, no appetite, sluggish movement, edema, and general inactivity. Does sound like stress. Can he see any other animals, a lot of human activity or heavy noise or reflections of himself? As already mentioned, there needs to be a gradient of temps from warm basking spot to cooler more humid sheltered spots in the cage for him to retreat to.
