great stuff background question

sleepofapples Dec 07, 2005 12:59 PM

just made a new setup for my red eye treefrogs using great stuff (foam insulator) as the background .. its covered with black roofing silicone and dried coco bark... i was just wondering if anyone knows how long should i wait after it dries before it is safe for my frogs... i finished it two days ago and will probably wait till tomorrow to add the plants... is there a certain amount of time i should wait before adding the frogs?

I definatley agree! As long as you can smell chemicals, its probbaly not a good idea to add your frogs. A week is a good ammount of time for everything to settle, but you can add palnts whenever you want.

I tried a tank with great stuff (completly failed, for other reasons...) and I found it kept expanding for a few days, just ever so slightly.

i let the great stuff sit for two days before adding the silicone.. to make sure it was fully expanded.. so that should be ok.. this is the third tank ive used it on... getting better with practice i think.. but i cant for the life of me remember how long i waited before adding them last time... these are new frogs, just got them from a show in atlanta, so i am keeping them in quaranteen for 2 weeks before putting them in the tank anyway... just wasnt sure if that was long enough... thanks for the replies!
