What is the best path to take?

matrix Dec 07, 2005 01:39 PM

I just sexed my 66% poss. hets and found out I have 1.2 snakes. I have been reading alot about trying to see if there is any visable traits I can see. The male has alot of black speckling and one of the females look yellow to me. Would it be best to get a 100% male and breed him to the females or vice versa. I am just looking for some ideas on this one. Thank you all

I would pick up a 100% het male. That way you will be able to tell if your females are hets or not. If you use the possible het male and produce NO albinos, you won't know if your females were not hets, the male, or both. Hope that helps, take care

How far away are they from being breedable? If it's soon, you could always try the poss het male 1 or 2 years, and if he doesn't prove either of the females, try the 100% het.

Honestly, what I would do is plan on buying a male albino while you are growing your females. That way when you breed him to the females, even if you have normal females all the babies would be 100% het albinos, and they would be more marketable for you. If you score on the females and have hets you should get more albinos!

Just my 2 cents. Good Luck.

I agree a male albino would be the best bet. But if your on a budget you could just grow your girls and buy an adult male ready to breed cheap when the time comes.. I've been seeing 100% het males ready to breed for as low as 150.00. Rich

I was thinking the 100% male but I have about a year and a half before breeding. I think I will go in the direction of the albino male. I can always find a deal over the next year or so. Thank you all for the advice.
