Biting.......honestly

HAUS469 Dec 07, 2005 08:20 PM

What does it feel like?Im petrified of being bitten, even by a little snake.

I know some say it is nothing.....and some say that tattoos dont hurt either..LOL.

Well, they hurt me.......so what is your honest worst biting story?Do corns chew when they bite,or just bite and stop?

A hatchling isn't big enough to get you. they slide right off to the side. I would say it wouldn't be able to bite until around 15-19" and it wouldn't begin to be really felt until 25-30" I would say that a 3' corn may draw blood but still wouldn't HURT. I am not scared of being bitten but still jerk back EVERY time out of reflex. It was funny because when I first got my mbk he escaped and I was trying to pick him up and he kept striking at me. I kept jerking back and my girlfriend just walked over and picked him up (that was kind of humiliating ) he bit her and she didn't even notice. He musked her too. After I told her he bit her she her eyes got kind of big and she said "Really?" It was cute. Now she is scared to pick him up because "He makes me smell like oysters!"

All 6 of my snakes are still babies (largest is about 22 inches long). I've been struck at by 2 baby lavender speckled kings, a leucistic Texas Rat, and a Florida King and didn't even feel it. My Leucistic Texas Rat has grown about 7 inches since I got him (he's about 20 inches long) and he has a mouth that can now actually "grab" my pinky finger, but I still don't feel it. I'm actually not afraid... even knowing they'll get bigger.

I'm much more afraid of being bitten by my wife and kids' 3 gerbils. Now that's a bite I want no part of. I was bit by a hamster as a kid (through a leather winter glove) and I'll never hold a hamster again.

At a pet store, I saw a guy get struck by a much larger Albino Texas Rat (about 3 foot long) and when he got struck, you could see the "impact impressions" on his hands, but it drew no blood. They guy said that it felt like someone flicking you with their finger.

Now, I'm not sure about the LARGER snakes boas, etc., but I'm not worried about the snakes I have at all (3 corns, 1 Leucistic Texas Rat, 2 Florida Kings). PLUS, corns hardly ever bite and if you handle them gently, probably never will.

Good question, really. It hurts, but the fear is worse than the bite itself. At least with critters like corns and kings. If you remember having skinned knees as a kid, that's far worse.

My worst biting story... I was handling my little Cal King, then a rather skinny 3 and a half feet. She crawled up my jacket, to behind my shoulder where I couldn't see her head. I reached around to intercept her, and next thing I know, I feel a pin-pricking sting and soft pressure. I withdrew my hand back into view, and there the stupid little beastie was, chomping my finger and wrapped fully around my hand, trying to constrict and kill it.

I looked at her for a minute, hoping she'd realize her mistake. I even said, "Are you going to let go?" And she, of course, didn't. So, I got some water from the sink, and submerged my finger and her head. She tried her darndest to pull my finger back out of the water, still latching on. Didn't feel good, but finally she released my finger. And kept her little body insistently wrapped around my hand. It took about fifteen minutes to figure out how to safely unwind her without harming her. I finally got her back in her cage, and the poor little dear started crawling around, looking very agitated because that mean person took away her "mouse"! I felt like a horrible bully. But on the bright side, I had a neat set of pinpricks, four rows from her upper jaw and two from her lower to show off to everyone the next day.

Now, I have a spritz bottle full of vinegar in case of any other feeding errors. Better than water. And that was a feeding error. With defensive bites, the snake usually bites and lets go, not wanting to stay too close to whatever it bit. Oh, and the jaw pressure of the little snakes like Cal kings and corns, isn't much. Just enough to grab a mouse and keep it grabbed for constriction.

This was a very good question. Well ive been biten by many snakes and its the shock that gets you not the actuall bite itself, because you are not expecting them to bite you. Ive only been biten once by a corn snake and it was a feeding mistake, he grabed on and bite my finger and actually drew blood, it didnt hurt i sort of sat there and talked to it. lol. it was quite funny.

I was biten a long time ago when i was about 11 by a Northern Copperhead in Mass. I was looking for Eastern Garters in these borrows and i was little and didnt think and i stuck my hand into the hole and felt a sharp pain on my hand i pulled my arm out and there on it was this Copperhead. Ouch it hurt and i was scared. It was the scariest moment of my life. A few moments after being dizzy i sort of went unconschus i geuss, i dont remember fully. When i woke up i felt fine maybe a little dizzy but didnt even remember i was biten until that night when i looked at my hand, what i think happened was that he only got me with one of his fangs, and barely injected any venom into me because there was only the one main fang hole not two, and the rest of his little teeth markings. I never received medical attention or anything else of that sort. Ive read that many people dont have a reaction to the Copperheads, as there venom isnt as potent as other venoumous snakes.

Thats just my little scary story. And it is true, many people dont believe me but it is true.

it was a half grown one and barely left a mark..My 12yo(who is very sensitive to pain)got bit twice by a ball python and he just said ouch..Again it barely left a mark, just like a light scrape...If youve ever played with a kitten its worse then a ball python or a cornsnake bite.

Ive not been bitten by anything large but Ive been tagged by ball pythons and a carpet python(juvinile) and bearded dragons..The worse was the beardie, it hurt..

My worst bite was from a 7 foot long boa constrictor with a head 3 inches wide. She got me across the back of the hand, and I dripped blood all the way to the bathroom sink. But even the pain from that wasn't more than a 3 on a scale of 1-10, with 10 the highest.

I don't think I've ever had a corn snake bite that I'd rate higher than 1 on a pain scale of 1-10. For comparison, think minor paper cut.

The perception of pain from a bite owes much to the surprise factor from the sudden strike.

I understand how you feel. But, really, a little corn snake bite does not hurt. In fact, I got tagged the first time by my little spitfire lavender, and I actually had to think, "Did she bite me?" After the next 15 strikes in close succession, I had no doubt that she'd bit me, but I literally did not feel the bite, just the thump of the strike.

Really, once it happens, you'll laugh. Tiny snake - so fierce. It really is funny.
