WHY DO WE????

JOEP123 Dec 07, 2005 09:10 PM

WHY IS YHAT WE ARE STILL BUYING WC ANIMALS?
There are so many reputable breeders out there, why do we still buy them. I did not know much about this but I read the prev. post and OMG it is inhumane. I was also wondering what it’s the difference between WC and Farm-Race.

and that is for new founding stock for animals which previously did not exist in captivity. Such is the case with the VERY few Panamanain imperator brought in this year (Panama is strict about exportation).

There are also new morphs born in farms (gravid females are collected and kept until they give birth and the babies sold).

The part I do not like is the huge numbers of Colombian and Nicaraguan imperator that enter the U.S. through importation. These are readily available from premium established bloodlines.

Oh well, enough of the rant.

That the few boas that have been brought in recently with CITES permits were captive bred in the country of origin. I have Western Costa Rican BCI, Costa Rica has only allowed one permitted serpentarium to export (this is the same source as the Sabogae). The Iquitos Peruvians that were just imported were CBB in Peru, and I am pretty sure the Panamanians were captive bred as well. I don't think Panama allows collection of wild animals.

I dont think there is as much of a demand for w/c boas as there is for other species.. Take ball pythons for example I go to the reptile shops in my area and all the ball pythons are labeled "50.00 adult BALL PYTHONS!!!" and then you read the lables closer and it says wild caught and not feeding. Sounds like a great deal dont it? I would only buy w/c if it where one of only a few imported and wasnt being bred in the states. other than that I dont see a need..Its just not right IMHO. Rich

I refuse to buy wild-caught, and the only imports I have (pair of peruvians) were cbb in peru, THEN imported to the US. And not CB, CBB. The place they came from breeds their own animals, then exports. Anytime I'm at a show or store looking at an animal, second I hear/see "wild caught", deal's a bust.

The upside of w/c is that it brings new blood in. I'm into Surinams and the animals I like tend to come from the same bloodlines. If I find a w/c that shares those traits I'd be inclined to buy it to avoid inbreeding.

I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND BUT THEY ARE SO MANY LINES TO CHOOSE FROM!!!!! Dont you think?
Thank you,

I have a pair of Boas I purchase at a show, later I found out they where WC, I really feel bad getting them.

There are so many different suriname strains in captivity, that's absurd.
