Snake isnt shedding

l0co Dec 08, 2005 04:13 AM

Well... few days ago i noticed my snake has that blurry look to his eyes and 3 days ago they cleared up
he hasnt shed yet
he is weird to touch, as if his skin is draped over him instead of being tight about his body, like it felt before his last shed
but im worried that he havnet shed yet

is it dangerous? how long can it take for a snake to shed after his eyes clear out?
should i bath him in lukewarm water or should i give him an extra few days

how can i check if im wrong? i might have been mistaken because it will be the 2nd shed in my experience but im pretty sure he had that mirky look to his eyes
help :>

I dont think you really have anything to worry about. As they normally shed 2-3 days after they clear up. So dont worry about putting him in warm water quite yet. Just my opinion.

i'm no expert, but i would not be too worried. i got six corns and sometimes they shed and i never realized that they blued. sometimes they blue and seem never to shed. what i sometimes do is mist the cage with a water spray bottle or even pick up the snake and mist it. i'm not really sure if this helps or not but it seems to work fine for me and don't hurt the snake.
by the time you read this yours probably shed.

nah i visit this forum rather frequently and even more when i have a topic im waiting for replies on

i started cleaning a window cleaner mister thingy but im afraid that even after all my cleanings of it it still has some chemichal cleaner substance in it :

riddick13 Dec 08, 2005 09:06 AM

i got the mister that i was at walmart for about a dollar. this way you don't have to worry about chemicals. one less thing to worry about

Wash the mister w/ hot water, isopropyl alcohol, vegetable or olive or mineral oil, soapy water then rinse.

If it still smells like cleaning chemical then it's embedded in the plastic and can't be safely cleaned.

If you can't smell anything then the concentration left is so low that it doesn't matter (e.g. the snake would get the same exposure from a spritz as it would get from the air when you use cleaning products in the house).

Even our weak sense of smell is enough to detect molecules in the parts per million to parts per billion range.

how much longer should i give my snake to shed before i gotta get worried :>

Did you provide the proper humidity? I have noticed that it seems to take longer to shed if they didn't have the right humidity. But I'm sure you will be fine.

i sprayed some war mwater in the cage today but ithink the humidity is ok...
i used to have too much few weeks ago.. or atleast thought so when i saw vapors on the glass but it stopped for some reason

Try taking a small margerine tub or something like the little containers that meal worms come in and cutting a snake-size hole in it. Fold a damp paper towel in the bottom, put the lid on, and put it on the cool side of the tank. If your snake feels it needs more humidity to shed, it will curl up in the moist hide. If you put one of those in when you see them go blue, you'll haqve a good shed.

Yeah, but not on the cool side. Put the damp hide in the middle.

Go to Wal-Mart. You can get new spray bottles for 99 cents.
