Hypo Hog Is. question

amiemac9 Dec 08, 2005 11:39 AM

Hello again,

Are all hypo Hogs Is. actually Hypo(col) X Hogs, or are there true 100% Hogs that are hypo? Do the columbian crosses get big or does that depend on the snake? I've seen some sweet "hypo hogs" but I'd like to keep my localities as pure as possible.

Thanks in advance,
Amie

they are all crosses with colombians, and therefore no longer locality hog island boas... i am not really a fan of this cross, let alone the prices being charged for them...

($200 boa x $500 boa = $5000 boa??????)

Some are crossed with the CA hypo, so should retain a smaller size than Columbian crosses. They are some of the most beautiful hypos produced and most don't brown out like normal hypos tend to do in adult hood. But, if you want to keep pure bloodline, this is not the way to do it. If you want to create amazing colored hypos, than this is the way to do it.
And no, a $200 Hog and $500 hypo do not make a $5k Sunset Hypo. They can make $100-$200 normals and $400-$700 HypoXHogs (which is an average price for a good colored hypo), or if a Sunset or Sunset cross is used, you could get up to $1500 for the Sunset crosses (hypos) produced. These are more because the years of breeding by D&M to produce these clean babies. Now, I will admit $5k for a hypo, regardless how nice is high. But, they are beautiful, and they will sell for what the market will bear.
Hope this helps.

yeah, i did leave out a step in the price progression, didn't i? didn't mean to... i just think that the final phase of that cross, the "sunset" is overpriced considering what it is... of course it's all personal opinion, it's just that mine is that hypo's are a beautiful naturally occuring morph (mostly natural anyway... basically there are sustained groups of these animals in nature, vs. albinos, etc... that don't make it much past birth in the wild) and that hog island's are a beautiful, natural phase, and that the two shouldn't really get together... no matter what is charged... i'm not a die-hard locality guy just like i'm not a die-hard morpher... i'm just a die-hard purist!

and Laura, i wasn't trying to run them down! i've noticed that i don't really come across very well online... sorry!! (especially since i've had my eye on your ghost line for a while!!!)
