Does anyone have any opinions or reviews on this book?

Thanks,

I got a copy of the 2005 edition early this year. There are faults, both of omission and commission. I hope that the worst ones will be fixed in the 2006 edition. Despite the faults, it is a must buy for anyone who wants information on corn snake mutant genes. Because there is nothing else that is even half as good.

I would definitely get a copy of this book for reference... Actually, I have the last two years' books. It's a very good source of genetics info in addition to info on cornsnake morphs. Whether you continue to buy new copies each year is up to you, but I recommend having atleast 1 version around. (Incidentally, rumor has it the 2006 guide is available.)

Regretfully, Chuck and I have had our disagreements in the past, so I doubt he would care what I have to say about his book one way or the other. But, let that fact weigh on what I am about to say even more...

Chuck's book is exemplary for its treatment of cornsnake genetics. He presents the information in a clear and concise manner, and there is something there for individuals to glean whether they be experienced handlers of corns, or be at the extreme novice end of the spectrum. I cannot recommend it enough, if only to have ready access to that section of his efforts.

It's a "buy" for certain, in my estimation.

It's a very good guide to the different morphs and has an excellent genetics primer designed to make you comfortable with the whole genetics thing. I highly recommend it.

And, yes, the 2006 edition is out. There is a link to his site in the links on Kathy Love's site, Cornutopia, which you can access above.

I can only just grasp the basics of morph genetics, but this book comes closest to explaining the next steps to me.

Besides which, it's a fascinating historical document. I have the 2004 & 2005 editions and it's fascinating to watch the speed with which new morphs are emerging. Can't wait to see the 2006 edition. I intend to buy every new edition for as long as it's published.

I'd definitely recommend buying it -it's fascinating.

Thanks for all the replies. I have a thorough grasp of both basic and advanced genetics (but not the subtleties of cornsnake color and pattern mutations). This book is a gift for my girlfriend who is expanding her collection of corns (and her knowledge of morphs). She's a mechanical engineer so she has to know everything there is to know about a subject before she's satisfied. I ordered the book based on your replies so if she's not happy with it, I blame you all!

Thanks Again!
