Everglades question

phiber_optikx Dec 08, 2005 01:29 PM

I am wanting to eventually get into glades rats but had a few questions. First off how different is their care than my black rats? How is their generall disposition? Also, if I do get one I want it to be a brilliant orange one like I have seen from a few of you guys. Are the orange one all hypos? Thanks for the help.

The glades care is the same as any of the rats, they are all the same. Corn, black, gray, glades, yellow, bairds, texas, greenish, fox, all the same. As far as disposition, they are the same as well. You can get one that is laid back or get one that is the spawn of satan!! LOL Just depends on the snakes peronality.

Color can be really variable in the everglades rats. I have one that is really nice looking and great colors, but some of his clutch mates are kind of drab and not near as bright orange as mine. And he is a normal glades, not hypo. Some of the hypos are pretty, but I find them lacking the dark oranges that I enjoy. They are more of a faded orange look.

Umm I think it would be fair to say that it depends on what stock you have. The normal glades I have are more of a red orange with a intense under glow of bright orange. The hypos have great intense bright orange and every scale has two little red dots on it towards the tip of the scale which gives them a deeper color with highlighter yellow and orange in there.

I guess i should get some new pics and stop being so lazy Haha

Here are some old ones. One of these is like three years old. LOL

That is EXACTLY like I am looking for. Are those normals or hypos? Do they breed true?

The pics are of hypo glades. I don't have any pics of normals for some reason. Yes they breed true. it is a simple recessive trait.

I have a hypo male and 2 het females from our tall friend Jason. They are all coloring up nicely and are growing like weeds. Watching the colors come in on everglades rats is a lot of fun. The hypo youngster has a more pinkish/reddish look right now, and the hets an orange-brownish at the moment. Blotches are fading into lines on both hypo and hets. They are not even 6 months old and are as big or bigger than some of my 2004 corns.

Took me a minute to figure out who bigdbass would be then I saw Dan and I am pretty sure you are the only Dan who got 05 Glades. Anyway glad to here they are doing well. When are you coming to the meetings??? Oh and I met your brother (in-law??) at the thing for Ron. He is a nice guy and he said you should go to the meetings to. HAHA
If you look real close to the coil across my knuckels you can almost see the two red dots I was talking about further up this thread. They look like dark spots.
