Can't recognize food, how are these not extinct?

What do you do? My guy is eating crickets but he's growin alarmingly fast, and crickets are only so big. I've tried mixing in fish and pinkies, he doesn't eat from tongs so the fish have to go into his water dish and pinkies just on the floor. He doesn't touch either, no matter how much they are thrashing around or wiggling or shivering. The pinkie actually made its way to snuggle up against the pacman's mouth, I guess for warmth. really depressing.

The Pacman hasn't eaten in 2-3 days to try to make it hungry, but to no avail. My question is, how long can I not feed the guy to try and get him to eat something else/from tongs but still keep him healthy? How do frogs in general recognize food, apparently it's not from movement. I've even tried stuffing a fish tail first into his mouth.

Thanks.

I've been keeping pacman frogs for over 15 years and one thing I've learned about feeding routines is that each individual frog will respond differently. Some pacman frogs are finicky when it comes to meal time. My oldest living pacman is pushing 10 and he only eats rodents. I have another that will only take crickets. Despite their reputation for voracity some of these frogs will develop a taste for a specific type of prey. Once you find out which prey your frog accepts, develop an appropriate routine. My advice to you is to continue feeding crickets. If that's what your frog responds to there is no reason to force other prety on him. Gutloaded crickets are healthier in the longterm anyway than rodents or fish.

I feed my pacmen and pixies once every 7-10 days. My older frogs feeding on rodents are very 7-14 days. A healthy pacman can potentially go for month or two without eating but this is not advised. Also, it is very possible to overfeed. It hass been my expereince that frequent overfeeding will shorten a frogs lifespan dramaticly. So, in short, continue with the crickets every few days to once a week. Dont overfeed or underfeed and he'll be with you for a long time.
