You've GOT to see this!

We hatched this little girl out earlier this year. She's an Ornate with an unusual habit; she likes lying on her back under her hide rock! When we first saw this, we thought she was stuck but this is how she sleeps! If she's disturbed, she'll scamper off but comes back (in about 5 minutes) and resumes the position. She eats well and is active so we don't think it's a medical issue.
It's been a long time since I've posted pictures and forgot how. :/ If you follow this link, it'll take you to my online photo album where there's pics of her. Just copy and paste it into your browser. Whatta ya think?

Sorry everyone. This link doesn't seem to "open to the public".... If anyone can tell me how to post pics, please do so! In the meantime, if you'd like to see her pictures, e-mail me at scareylady@yahoo.com and I can send them direct.

Wow, that is a trip! I cannot wait to see more of these crazy pictures! Could it be a neurological thing? Though if they are otherwise completely healthy, I suppose not. I suppose each lizard to their own! lol

Thanks, GramPa!!!!
Lindsay, this sleep "habit" is pretty much a nightly routine. Come about 7:00 she's in position, always in the same place, goofy-looking with her skinny arms stretched wide. As you can see in the first photo, your grandson thinks this is all a bit too mammalian.

Actually, Jimbo, those are picts we took. Lindsay, who we purchased the male parent from, was nice enough to get the picts posted as Loraine & I were stumped. By the way, thanks for the advice on the decomposed granite!

I love it. Just when you think you have seen it all...
She is quite the individual.
Hope she lives a long and healthy life-she definitly has some surprises set in store for you!

Have you seen her get in that position? The entire thing intrigues me... but it looks like she is wedged in there pretty good, does she "scooch" backwards into that place? If so, you shoudl try to video tape it, surely that should win something on America's funniest home videos! Plus I would love to see it! lol.

She always comes up from the backside of the slab, never from the front. So, all we get to see is her goofy head protruding ever so slightly out. We worry there's a screw missing but her other behaviors are quite normal. We've more picts but are having a real task in trying to post them. We'll keep trying.

LoraineinFla Dec 12, 2005 08:31 PM

Once, when Dan wasn't around, I saw her scurry across the top of the rock, flip over and crawl (like a spider on the ceiling)until her head popped out the other side. Funniest derned thing I ever saw a Uro do! Wish we could get this on tape but she's pretty unpredictable.

Jimbo Dec 15, 2005 09:50 AM

I think it's great! I love it when their individualisms come out. I agree with getting on video!
