Crested Gecko's living with my Chameleons?!?! Is it Possible?

chamcham505 Dec 09, 2005 04:25 PM

Hey everyone,

Now, I was just talking with a friend of mine, and he has a female veiled chameleon in a 4 by 2 by 2 all screen enclosure. In with the chameleon, he has a male crested gecko! He said they do great together! They have basically all the same needs (enclsoure, humidity, ect) and the crested gecko is basically nocturnal...so while his female is awake during the day, the crested is up at night. She has a seperate water and food dish for him, but the chameleon doesnt seem to mind...

Now, it got me wondering "Hmmm...could I do that?!" I know cohabitation is NOT the best thing with chameleons, but Cobalt has more than enough space, and he isnt aggressive towards other reptiles, only towards the camera (lol) Could I at least give it a try? I always hear about the stories with the chameleon and Blue tounged skink, or the chameleon and the frog, and I really dont think Cobalt would mind...and if it didnt work, I always have more than enough space for another lil' lizard ...So, what do 'ya guys think? A "yes", or a "no go"??? Thanks,

Michele

We had a pardalis in with two standigi. They were fine. Anything smaller, and he'd have eaten them. We were stupid kids at the time.

He actually pulled a small plastic tank off a shelf with is tongue, cause there was a 5" baby day gecko in it.

Pardalis will try to eat geckos if they are below a certain size. If they are big, they do get along fine, but there's always the risk of it shooting at the food in the geckos mouth - which will reslt ina crushed gecko head, an dpossibly a very full pardalis.

Sure, it can be done. It can work. But there's the possibility it'll be tragic. Unless you have a sealed room sized enclosure, it aint' worth it.

Also, I've noticed Crested Geckos being rather clumsy at times. They may jump on the chameleon trying to jump somewhere else or think it's a rock...this could add in stress. Just a thought...
