Congrats Al! Great looking little snappers...are you gonna hold em back or sell them? I'd love one or a pair, but at the moment that's not looking too likely

phobos Dec 09, 2005 06:28 PM

Thanks...

I first have to get them to thrive before I figure out what to do with them. They are so damn cute I could hardly control myself from not just picking them up! I ended up using a slotted spoon to pick them up.

Congrats Al!!

Did you manipulate breeding, or was this from a wild caught female that you recently purchased?

Anyway, that is very cool!
Start stocking up on lizards! LOL!

Hi Randal:

The parents were both CB animals I have. The male was obtained at Daytona...The female since July of 04 put them together..105 days later...poof!

Thanks...

Awesome, Al. Nice Job! Those are cute little guys(or girls), I can't blame ya for wanting to pick one up.

That's awesome. You're a grandfather! Congratulations!

Now that's what I call success.

You are SO lucky! I truly love the Bitis genus and this species is definitely one of my favorites. =)

Only two live ones, but definitely very nice and healthy looking! Were there many stillborn or unfertalized ova? I think the lowest number of neos that I've seen a female throw was 4 before, and there were a few stillborn and slugs in the mix.

phobos Dec 09, 2005 10:36 PM

She dropped 13 slugs..no stillborn...At least I have a pair..

Next time you will be inundated with babies I bet. The first time around it seems like they don't have a lot of live ones. The females that survived in '02 either didn't have any live babies the first time or a lot of slugs like that too. The large female caudalis that usually produces regularly tends to have slugs or stillborn if her temps aren't consistently warm when she's cooking her babies. It's a lot less intense to raise a couple babies at once instead of 15 too.
