Eastern Hognose not eating

ejtchr Dec 09, 2005 06:55 PM

I purchased two baby Eastern Hognose snakes from the [bleep]. I was told they were eating unscented pinkies and has fed at least five times. One died after two days and the other hasn't eaten. I live on the West Coast and want to know if there is anything out here I can use to scent the pinkies to get this EH to eat?

Thanks,

E

I didn't believe those snakes were all feeding on unscented... Seemed too perfect to be true...

Try a frog, a toad or tuna juice.

I'd contact them and demand a refund or something of that nature for the other...

The best thing to use is a small tree frog. If you can, go out at night near a creek and listen for them. When you get to the area use a flashlight to find them. They will freeze like a deer caught in headlights so that you can catch them. I say this because I also live on the west coast and had the same thing happen to me earlier this year. It is most important you get it to feed. If it will not take scented with tree frog, then just give him a tree frog. If the tree frog is too big I freeze it and cut it in half long ways or cut off a leg and thaw and feed. Where do you live on the west coast? I live near san jose.

Thanks, I live in Fresno but moved here from Fremont...are fogs still out this time of year? I guess I don't know a lot about frogs. Perhaps I'll try to find one at a pet store.
Thanks again,

Eric

If you go to the pet store get a green tree frog. Not cuban or others...mine was picky about that. And yes there are frogs out right now(i have a creek in my back yard)
