Someone help me out here with my gab please.

FleshMechanic Dec 09, 2005 09:59 PM

Last June one of my gaboon vipers came down with an upper respiratory infection. I caught it pretty early on, got him to my vet and he gave me Amakacin. His infection cleared up pretty quick he's been eating regularly ever since. But one of his eyes seems a little larger than the other and it's a little cloudy. It's been like this since his infection cleard up. It's not a reatained eyecap as he's shed since and both eyecaps were on the shed. I've asked a few people and one friend of mine told me maybe there was still a little swelling in his head from the cold and that's why his eye looked that way. But it's been about six months now and he's very healthy other than the fact that his eye looks kind of funny. I was hoping someone would have some idea because I'm all out. My gabs really mean the world to me and I'd really like to take care of this if I can.

Thanks
Don

nice photo. In the six months has their been any change to the eye? It doesn't look swollen to me... If your snake is doing fine, and the vision doesn't seem impaired at all, then perhaps sit on this. If you'd like to pursue this, (Infection? catarac? infammation? plugged eye duct?) then your vet will be the place to go.

The eye does look a bit swollen but not infected; could be some inflammation that could be corrected by a topical steroid type of medication.....Like Ian, I would recommend a trip to the vet and get his input. As an aside, we have been having EXCELLENT results using Fortaz over Amikacin; just something to run by your vet should you ever need to do this again.
