Something I have been wanting to try.

I am wanting to do a study using artificial burrows similar to the ones I use in my outdoor cages. Habituate a snake to the burrow, let the snake shut down for hibernation and remove the caged part. My hunch is a high percentage will use the artificial burrow or home back to it. If this works it may be one way to augment habitat.

An interesting thesis, I'd make sure you have all your research permits... especially considering the status of the indigo.

False burrows and hibernaculums have been used successfully in more northerly climates. I personally have experience with this involving crotalus viridus in Lethbridge, Alberta.

I was actualy going to start with a simple racer. They are problem solvers just the same and intelligent. Coachwhips are a close enough match for starters. I will get a University involved localy and line out all my permits that way.
