flexwatt wiring questions

photoguy84 Dec 10, 2005 01:42 AM

i am getting everything ready to build my new cages, i am making 3 in all. my question is how to go about wiring the pieces themselves. i've read on the internet that i can take an extension cord and cut off the end with the extra sockets and then solder each one on one conductor and then tape it up with foil tape. is this true? if so, how would you wire it for two pieces of flexwatt? they will be sitting side by side. do i cut off both ends on the extension cord and then attach the two pieces together, then on the other end of one piece of the flexwatt, wire it so i can plug it into the outlet? since i am going to have three cages like this and i want to monitor the cages, which is the best thermostat to use for this? is there one that i can get to monitor all three at once?

You dont cover the connections with the foil tape as that will allow the current to flow wherever the tape is placed in that strip. Cover the connnections and cut ends with eletrical(black) tape. As for wiring a strip beside another stip, you would do it in the same fashion as wiring them straight across a board. Here is what ya can do to make is simpler.. Take a sharpie and mark one side of the strip.. Now you have a guide of which wire goes where.. So your "strip" side will goto the strip side on the other peice and so on and so forth. As for the best thermostat, that is realy up to you and your needs.. If you are planning on breeding I woudl go proportional so you can acess a true night drop or analog if you do not.. Hope this helps,
