Best examples of Pastel lines????

jenjames06 Dec 10, 2005 01:45 PM

Can anyone please post some of the best pictured examples of the Garazini, Bell, and NERD pastel lines? I am very undecided about which line I really want to get in to and want to keep a pure line going whichever I decide. I had my heart set on Garazini, but have seen some spectacular Bell's and NERD's. And has anyone heard of anyone trying to breed pastels into the Red Axanthic or Burgandy lines yet? I think it would produce quite a nice looking animal.

This is a pic of my proven breeder male...he's been locking up w/ the ladies like crazy this year! IMHO, the best line out there

I am not familiar with all of the BIG breeders yet. What is his website if possible?

bpconnection Dec 10, 2005 03:22 PM

Matt Turner and his partner are the ones who proved out the Blonde Pastel. I believe that since then, Matt has gotten out of the balls for the most part (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Most of the blondes out there now came through Eric Erb, who got his first from Matt.

For the most part, the blonde holds its color much longer than most any line out there (pastels lose their color as they age...you can see pastels that almost look normal in color b/c they've lost it).

I think the blonde is the best investment, and can be one of the prettiest pastels out there. Anyone feel free to rebuttle that, but I feel confident saying that. Good luck!

I wonder if this is another BP marketing myth -- "The Blonde Pastels hold their color better." I've heard this statement a BAZILLION times. I've also heard marketing myths on every Pastel line out there. Each line is the best.

The only mythless advice? Forget the bloodlines. Find a screamer Pastel. Buy it. Breed it. Make little baby screamer Pastels. And be happy.

You might be right on that one....especially about finding the one screamer...whatever the bloodline. All I know is that my blonde is 3 yrs. old and is still very yellow...I know that one's rare

Yahoo - is funny that way - if you get too much traffic on a site or file they shut down - best to upload them to your kingsnake account then link them.

You won't find many adult pastels with color like this...

I think the Graziani line is the best out there simply because it was the first line and it has been around the longest... allowing the animals to be selectively bred a lot longer. Otherwise I feel a pastel is pastel no matter what line.

I have my 2 lines of my own from two WC females and I don't think the pastels from them can compare. Just my opinion.

"I think the Graziani line is the best out there simply because it was the first line and it has been around the longest... allowing the animals to be selectively bred a lot longer."

I can list several popular lines off the top of my head -- Bell, Graziani, Lemon, Blonde, VPI, BHB, and Stonewashed. It would be interesting to know the chronological order of these popular lines.

Does anyone know?

I'm partial to the lemons myself, but Grazziani is nice also.

What's up with the one on the bottom. That has to be a cinamin butterscotch ghost hypo somethin, somethin? It looks like it's brownish, are you sure you call it "just a pastel"?

jenjames06 Dec 10, 2005 08:41 PM

I think I will take the one person's advice and just look for a SCREAMER male and go from there...lol
