Tail injury

HerbieThePython Dec 10, 2005 04:25 PM

We have two leopard geckos (1 male and 1 female) in one tank together. They have been that way for over 2 years and seemed fine. Today, the male was suddenly very aggressive and violent with the female. He bit her tail and spun into a "death roll" in the same way that you would see a croc or alligator. He bit off the end quarter of her tail and held in his mouth for a few minutes. We have now separated the geckos, but should something be done to the female's tail?? Does it need to be cleaned or disinfected (she hates being handled and is pretty spooky right now) or should it be left alone? I've never seen anything like this.. has anyone else experienced any behavior like this?

This is why i awlays tell people to be careful housing geckos together... Try putting some neosporin on the wound.

I amputated my finger... neosporin should be fine eh?

Just because they're small doesn't mean healthcare should be a joke.

Normally a bite wound resulting in a missing appendage would result in a docter's visit, no?

What about pain med's?

Just some thoughts on the subject anyways

You losing your finger and a lizard dropping its tail are two completely different things, why would you even compare the two? Your finger will not grow back!
