Matt,
That is one beautiful Nic. I have a ? though....and I don't want to offend you....and maybe it's just the way the pic is coming through on my pc....but doesn't hypo mean the reduction of black? I see that your Nic has tons of red but there is a lot of black in the tail as well and by definition, hypomelanism is not increased red pigment. The reason I ask this is b/c I have over a dozen Nics and some of them have zero black around their tail saddles...does this mean they're hypo? I don't know? maybe? I'll breed to find out for sure...but till then I label them as possible hypos. Also, every once in a while, someone posts a hypo nic for sale in the classifieds but I can't help thinking it's nothing more than a normal. Is there some tell-tale sign that I am missing? Once again, I hope not to offend you...it is a beautiful snake.
Sincerely,
Jason
I re-read my post and wanted to clarify...I'm trying to learn how to exactly define and/or establish whether or not a nic is hypomelanistic. I was in no way challenging your hypo nic.
Hopefully someone else can jump in and provide an informative/educational response to my ?.
Sincerely,
Jason
Hey Jason,
I think the actual definition of hypomelanistic is 'lacking' black pigment but I sm not 100% sure. If you look at most hypo boas in general they do have black pigment toward the tail. Nics in general are boas that have tons of dark pigment so the hypos are ones lacking the same amount of dark pigment...if that makes sense lol.

Hi Jason,
I'm still trying to figure out the hypo definition for a Nic too. From what I've pieced together, this one does look hypo, (maybe not the cleanest). It seems to me that besides the reduced black, hypos have red/orange tail saddles that wash out or blend in with the red/orange splotches on the sides of the tail. I think the ones that have no black in their saddles are supers. Just my $.02

.
That is the best pic of a hypo Nic I have seen. Extremely nice animal and really shows off its beautiful coloring and pattern.
