Pores on the underside

jjjt4beck Dec 11, 2005 11:35 AM

I was reading another post and it made me question the gender of my supposedly female crested. She is 1 year and recently hit 20g. She has no obvious bulge, but does have the same 2 white pores that my male has on his bulges. Do both male and females have these?
Also, I believe I have a runty female. 20g at 14 months obviously isn't ideal, but she is otherwise very healthy. She was 10g when I got her, 15g about 2-3 weeks ago, and now a good 20g. She eats crickets dusted with calcium 2 xs a week and CGD nightly. With some babyfood on occasion. She is a good gecko, tame and healthy. My male is 35g and we were hoping to breed them once she put on some weight. 20g is too small then? Would he hurt her? Would the babies likely be runty?
Thanks for the help, Jamie

Do not breed her at 20 grams! 35 grams is considered the safe weight to breed at. This wieght is "ususually" reached at 1-1 1/2 years but there are always the exception. If i read your post correctly she's gained 10 grams in 2-3 months? Are you sure she was 10-11 months old when you got her cause that weight gain seems normal to good. As for the white "pores" on your male and female, those are called cloacal spurs. both males and females have them. Some experienced people can tell the sex of young cresteds by the size of the scales on their legs and part of their belly. It's hard to describe. At about 20 grams you could pretty much assume it is a female.

Thanks. Good to know she is for sure a female. I guess I can't be positive about her birth date. The girl told me she was born in Oct of 2004, and I acquired her in September. I'll keep an eye on her and see what happens into next year. I will definitely wait to breed her until she is near 35 grams.
Thanks again! Jamie
