Feeder Mice

lyzni Dec 11, 2005 12:55 PM

Does anyone here use frozen mice to feed their snake? Right now my ball python is eating a small mouse about every 2 weeks. I really need to switch to pre-killed mice, but I can't find any stores that sell them. I was looking at buying them online, but the places I saw only sold them in 50packs. That many would last me a year! Will they "go bad" or get freezer burn? Anyone know where I could buy them in the Tampa, Fl area? Thanks!

Most of us use frozen/thawed mice. I purchased 300 (100 pinkies, 200 fuzzies) from RodentPro.com. So far, I haven't had any problems. Just make sure you get as much air out of the bag as possible before putting it back into the freezer. Just remember that the more you buy, the less it is per food item. Initially, I thought "EXPENSIVE" but when I thought it through, it just made more sense. Good luck with your BP!

you have to buy over 500 mice, your probably saving 20 bucks but, youd need alot of snakes to need that many mice

Uhhh, no. If I bought 300 mice at a local pet store, it would cost me $385.56 ($1.19 x 300 x 8%). I ordered 300 mice from RodentPro.com and paid $110.08. Difference? $275.48. Much more than $20.00. LOL.

i meant to save money AT rodentpro you have to order over 500 mice

i know petstores are expensive, youd have to be iliterate to not see the $2.50 per mouse difference between rodentpro and my local petshop

Is there a Petco in Tampa? I get my frozen rodents at Petco.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

just about everyone here feeds frozen/thawed (f/t). its the safest choice for feeding snakes. wheather it mice, rats, etc. freezing kills any parasites the food may have and you don't have to worry about the food eating your snake if left in with the snake.

all my snakes eat f/t from my baby corn who eats pinkies to my 7 foot python that eats jumbo rats. petco sells them or a reptile shop should if they sell snakes. just check around.

Petsmart is also selling them now, they're caled artic mice. I almost orgasmed when I heard Petsmart was finally selling feeder mice, its $10 dollars for six though and none of my snakes ate any of them, maybe cause they were too big though.

Just by a bunch of live mice and use one and put the rest in the freezer.

You could feed him more. . . If he's only eating small mice, he's probably pretty young and could handle eating more often. And by the time a year is up, he'll either be eating multiple small mice or larger mice.

I use a home vacuum sealer and repackage mice in quantities I'll go through in a month or two. Vacuum packed, they'll last at least a year and some say two years.
