Herptiles owners in Hong Kong?

replover Dec 11, 2005 02:39 PM

Hi, I currently do not have any pets, although I used to keep some herptiles many years ago when I was still in school. I live in Hong Kong. I am thinking about starting to keep reptiles again and am particularly interested in the green iguana. I wonder if anyone else here is from Hong Kong and would be willing to talk to me about reptile keeping in Hong Kong, practicality, the laws etc. etc.? If nothing else comes of it, at least we can make a new friend with similar interests.

Hi replover, nice to meet you. I'm a herpetoculturalist who's been to S. Korea and took up an interest in turtles there. Let me tell you something.

Be prepared for heartbreak and for a challenge overseas. You'll have trouble communicating your reptile's needs, and taking one for long term will be a chore, if not a real heartbreak if you have to dump it because of laws and the like.

But don't give up. I'll correspond with you. It'd be obvious, however, to just contact and English speaking customs official, or talk to a petshop owner. I know they deal with all sorts of rep's in Asia, so I wouldn't worry too much.

About ig's I'm not sure. I DO KNOW, HOWEVER, THE TAIWAN IS THE VENUE FOR IG'S AND OTHER REP'S. Find someone to contact there and get one shipped.
