Question about a suppliment I bought..

Mattman Jul 23, 2003 06:38 PM

I bought a 3lb tub of ESU ProCal d3 500 for 5 bucks. It contains Steamed bone meal, ground oyster shell, dried yeast, yeast culture, bee pollen, vit. d3 suppliment. I bought it to use as a suppliment for dusting and adding calcium and d3. It does contain 5% minimum Phophorus to 31% calcium Max. Is this ok to use as a suppliment? I usaully use rep-cal but for the price and amount I thought this would be worth it. I was unaware that it contained phosphorus. Is this an OK ratio of calcium to phosphorus to be used as a suppliment for crickets and salad?

It sounds like it would be ok. The only item of concern is the 5% min. Does that mean it could contain 20% phosphorus? If you are worried it would be fine for the salads, and just stick with a phosphorus free brand for dusting insects.
good luck

Matt,
I stay away from any clacium supps. that contain bone meal. It is not recomended for use in humans, because of it possibly containing heavy metals and other contaminants. Since the supplement industry is not that regulated right now, and less so for animal products, there is no knowing the level of proccessing the bone meal went through. Just a thought. You can find out more info by diong a ggogle search. If you have trouble let me know. I might have some info bookmarked.

Yeah I'm not to sure about it either. I got it real cheap any way not a big deal. Thought I would save a ton of money buying 3 lbs for 6 bucks instead of the little jars of rep-cal. Think I'm going to get some use out of it just going to mix it half and half with rep-cal so I know the calcium to phosphorus ratio is better then just that product alone. Thanks for your response.
