Congratulations!!

Make sure you leave her be for another week or two and get her feeding consistently...

thanks misskiwi i sure will!!! at first i thought all of you were crock pots that didnt know what they were talking about. then i said maybe there smart and i should listen. now im glad i listened. happy holidays and thanks

Crock pots huh??? LOL Well, maybe some of us....

There are people here who've been breeding snakes longer than I've been alive, so don't discredit anyone here. Some people can be jerks, but mostly its just because we get tired of people who don't listen, learn, or just plain don't know any better.

Thankfully you took the hint, and I hope everything goes well for you from now on!

i am glad she finally ate, alot less stress i am sure. but i have a recomendation for you, in the future, dont feed your snakes on aspen, if they swallow a woodchip, their bowels will become impcted and they will die.
snakes wont stop swallowing to spit out a woodchip, they will just keep going. and swallow the spen with the rat. their stomachs cant digest the cellulose, and it is deadly to them.
if you have to feed in your snakes' enclosure, do your best to clear all of the aspen out of the way before giving your snake the food.

The guy finally listens, makes progress, and now we start nitpicking some MORE...

THE SNAKE HAS NEVER EATEN BEFORE... and you expect him to dig around in the cage before he drops in the mouse?? Lets stress the poor thing a little more and cross our fingers...

I feed my snakes on the substrate every time. I've watched them swallow the rats, and whatever substrate was on the rat was pushed off during the process of eating.

YES, impaction is a risk, but I think some things (like eating) should take priority. Once the snake is feeding consistently and aggressively, if you feel like being cautious, then feed on newspaper or in a different container. But I wouldn't worry about details like that until your snake has put some weight on and feeds consistently.

the reason the snake ate on aspen was because the mouse was in HER enclosre. if shes never eaten then im not going to move her to another place and add stress. miss kiwi was right dont nit pick on everything because i bet you feed your snakes on cedar or something. i have aspen wood shaving not chips. i know people like kathy love that sometimes feed on aspen. i know you were just trying to help me but lets be glad she ate. when shes older i will tweek everything so that she can eat outside of her tank.

Okay, we are all glad that she finally ate. Yes it is true that you should be careful feeding on any substrate, just keep an eye on them. Uberkid, don't fling insults, it's juvinile and rude. Learn to take critisism gracefully.

Anyway, congrats on her eating hopefully she becomes consistant in it.

sorry i think you took my suggestion wrong , i didnt mean it as criticism, i meant it as a suggestion incase he wasnt aware of the dangers, and i understant that at this point, it is better if it eats on aspen than not at all, i was not refering to the present feeding, but if you go in the night before you intend to feed and clear the aspen away from the entrance of the hide, not just before you offer food, i think the snake will not be any more stressed out than if it wasnt cleared out.
i just wouldnt want the snake to get an impaction.
this wasnt meant as criticism, it was meant as a suggestion to someone who it seems may be inexperienced and may not have known better
i didnt mean any offense.

no offense taken, I just thought the kid had enough for one day, and was afraid he'd disappear and just keep making stupid mistakes that would get his snakes killed... now I'm starting to think he deserved everything he got.
