If they have only "adopted" it and do not own it, the the actual owner of the land could give you permission to herp there. If the land is state owned, and it is not a national forest, you should be able to collect there. But, check with your state regs if it is owned by the state.

Here in KY, you can collect on any state land that is open to hunting, as long as you follow the guidelines. The only exception is the national forests that you cannot hunt on. All wildlife is protected in those areas, and collecting is a big no-no. This includes plants as well as animals!

All Audubon Society land is regarded as wildlife sanctuary. No hunting or disturbance of wildlife is allowed. The Audubon society strictly enforces this rule on their land.

The only exception is the national forests that you cannot hunt on. All wildlife is protected in those areas, and collecting is a big no-no. This includes plants as well as animals!

Brian,

I don't get what you are saying. Did you mean National Parks?
National Forest Land is open for hunting as long as you abide by state regulations (have a hunting license) in every state I have lived in.
There are designated wilderness areas within national forests, but those are designated by the feds, not the state and are marked as such.
Much (most?) of the herping that you see posted on these websites occurs on national forest land.

Yep I meant parks. And yes the forests managed by the state here in KY are the same way. Areas set aside and managed for hunting as well as no-hunting areas.
