Eggs, finally

the4thmonkey Dec 12, 2005 06:14 AM

Yesterday, 30 days after I noticed her bright orange colors, Cadence laid 7 eggs. Unfortunately, she was apparently taught Egg Laying 101 by Fawn. She paid special attention to the part about ignoring the 3 places I kept ready for her, laid them in a bad place and then trampled them. 3 made it to the incubator, 2 of those are caving in on themselves. And since I never saw Otis pay any attention to her, I wonder if her eggs were fertile, anyway. I don't have a lot of hope for the one decent looking egg, as I see no pink disc on it. I'm just glad little Cadence is healthy.
Saige got her orange bars a few days before Cadence, but her colors have faded over the past couple of weeks and I can only guess that she reabsorbed her eggs. I'm hoping all my girls will knock it off, and as soon as Cadence puts on some weight, I will start preparing them to brumate.

I'm just glad it is over with. Cadence is so young and small, I didn't like that she was pregnant already. And it seemed to me that she was a week overdue, and that was worrying me, too. I could not keep any hatchlings, anyway, althought it would be nice to have a pretty little male to give to Princess Fiona's dad.
Cadence was so fat before that she is not terribly skinny now. She is sleeping a lot, but did come out to bask for a while today, so I think she is going to be ok. Fawn is in serious competition for the next fattest lizard contest. Otis is his same sweet self. Saige had some huge and watery stools a couple of weeks ago, but showed no signs of being ill, and that has gone back to normal. I wonder if that had something to do with absorbing her eggs?

Yeah, Peanut's skills at egg laying are about on par with your two. That's just as well I think, because it'd be awfully hard to give up the babies. I'd want to keep them all.
