Hova bator Success?

dawnrenee2000 Dec 12, 2005 09:43 AM

Please give me some feedback on the Hovabator incubators. Which model is better and are they reliable? I was thinking of trying one this year for the Cal King Breeding project that we are doing for the high school.

I've used the hova-bator for chicken eggs, I think it costs $30. It worked fine. I kept a thermometer in there at all times to make sure there were no temperature malfuntions.

These are inexpensive incubators, and I'd probably not use one for high-end snakes, but if you're just breeding colubrids for fun, they're fine.

I agree with Tim. Further, I have hatched many dozens of Colubrids/Kingsnakes in Hovabators, as have others. Kingsnake eggs are fairly "durable", and the low end Hovabator without the fan does just fine, assuming you put the eggs in a suitable humidity microclimate. Hovabator have only one wafer, and are said to be vulnerable to malfunctions, but I have not had any problems for years. I would not trust them for more sensitive eggs, i.e. pythons, tortoises etc. Of course, many of us have hatched Colubrid/kingsnake eggs just on a shelf in the house...no incubator. I would say get one, they are reasonable cost, reasonably reliable. I like the one with the window in the lid. Be sure to "dial in" the appropriate temp prior to putting in eggs, then adjust as needed. Good luck, Vic
