Baby question........

geckoman2000 Jul 23, 2003 07:10 PM

Are all babys born with the bands. I was just wondering I didnt know iff the bands always break up into spots or if they sometimes go away. This might be a dumb question but im just trying to learn everything i can. Thanks

Most babys are born with bands and yes they usually do break up. Some are born without bands (patternless) or the bands hafe mutated to jungle patterns, stripes, reverse stripes, etc. but these break up and become spots too.

I know of one breeder that is trying (with some success) to get a gecko to keep most of it's banding so the adult will look similar to when it was a baby. What is normal is for the bands to fade to spost though.

Hope this helps.

So those hypo and super hypo tangerines are born without bands?

JJay Jul 23, 2003 07:26 PM

I have never hatched a hypo or superhypo but from what I have seen I would say they had bands to begin with and they faded away with no spots. Then the darker band area changed to the same color as the rest of the body. I have a 3 mo. old right now who's bands have faded and are now turning the same color tangerine as the tangerine areas where the black banding was.

I have only hatched super hypo tangerines and they are born with bands and will eventually fade. Sometimes when the bands fade away you end up with spots instead.
