snake hasn't eaten in three months

ntf Dec 12, 2005 05:08 PM

I am concerned that my snake hasn't eaten in 3 months. She stopped eating Sept. 13. Her cage temp is 75-65F. She is 4 ft long and I've had her for almost a year. She seems to be less muscular and not as active. Do snakes go into a hibernation state in the fall. It is cooler in the room she's in. How long can snakes go without food? Please help! Thanks

if those are the temps at your warm end you may want to raise them, Those temps are a bit low for what most people keep their snakes at. The care sheet on this form recommends "temperature gradient of 84-88 degrees F on the warm end and 70-75 degrees at the cool end" Hope this helps. Others may reply with more suggestions.

Keep her at mid-eighties for a week without a cooler side in her enclosure, warm up the whole room if you have to.then give her a good 3-4 hr soak in pedialyte then offer live food (fuzzy mice)the next day. This has worked for me but it's not a guaranteed method, it might be time for you to get another snake.

Thats to cold 75 is more like a cool side than a warm side. I keep my Arizona mt king which from what I understand dont need it as hot as other kings in 20 gallon long (its a baby).
The warm side with hide areas is 83 cool side with hide areas is 72 .
He eats great mostly stays in like 78 degree zone but does go back and forth.
You need to increase the temp .

I appreciate all the advice from people in this forum. I did three things: Prayed over the snake, bought more heating lamps, insulated the glass sides of the tank to bring the temp up to 84. She has eaten two fuzzzies and is back to her old self again. Yay!
