What is a good starter, besides the leo or viper gecko. I have too many desert species and am looking for a new kind, less my room turn into the sahara.

do a little research on rhacodactylus or uroplatus geckos ( uroplatus are a bit more advanced, and mostly WC though)
i would look into rhacodactylus ciliatus, or auriculatus if i were you.

Okay thanks. What do you think about leaf-tailed?

well, i keep lineatus, henkeli, and s. sikorae right now.
they're pretty cool but can take some work to get to acclimate if you get wild caughts. however the henkeli are fairly available as CB if you look around and can find a young pair for under 300 if you have that much.
email me if you're looking, i know someone who's got a near adult pair ( female has a regen. tail) but i know are CB and he will sell them shipping included for a very good price.
if i were going to get some over as WC i would suggest getting henkeli or sikorae as they seem to be the most hardy in my experience, plus they are all just SWEET looking
here's one of my female lineatus...
