Not eating & with an eye problem sounds like something you really need a vet for. Can you travel to another town?
Here's a list of vets, you might find one near you through the list:

or try
http://www.arav.org/

Good luck.

i can not travel to another town .where could i find worms or other live food please help me

megan15 Dec 14, 2005 03:15 PM

I don't know of any pet stores that sell worms, but you may be able to find an online store that sells them. try a google search on earthworms for sale. You should realy think about going to see a vet.

goldberg_sp Dec 15, 2005 02:00 AM

we dont have good vets and if we buy worm online by the time it comes to us she could be dead

RFB Dec 15, 2005 10:38 AM

Give the turtle up to a rescue center or someone with more experience. You seem like a nice enough person but with your limited knowledge and inability or refusal to get to a vet the turtle won't make it with you. Worms can be gotten at fishing and bait shops. Or depending on where you live by digging in the dirt. Really consider giving it up though.

If the turtle's eyes are not completely sealed shut you can swab some Gentocin or Vitamin A repti turtle eye drops sold at most pet stores in them.Sometimes turning the turtle upside down and swabbing with a q-tip will cause it to open it's mouth and you can force feed it with a dropper filled with squash baby food.his has the Vitamin A your turtle is lacking.I think it really needs a vitamin A shot by now and to be kept in a warmer humid draft free environment to prevent repsiratory illness in the 1st place.I place Vitamin A eye drops in my boxies eyes once a week as a preventive.

thank you i will try your advice .her shell is rot but i expose her to sunlight everyday what should i do about that?please reply quickly.

RFB Dec 16, 2005 11:52 AM

I'm beginning to think that you're full of it. On the off chance that you're not, GIVE THE TURTLE TO A RESCUE CENTER OR SOMEONE MORE EXPERIENCED. You don't seem to have a clue.

Pmultocida Dec 16, 2005 12:39 PM

I agree if you aren't willing to take responsibilty for this sick turtle then find someone who is.
When you get a pet that means you are responsible for it's every need. Pet store remedies are junk and they won't work for a turtle that's already sick enough to need a vet. Starving to death is painful, animals that aren't eating have a problem which means they need a vet to diagnose what's causing the problem then treat it.
When they need medical care and you deny it then that's cruelty to animals. Don't you ever watch Animal Cops? They arrest people who deny vet care for animals that need it.

Would you sit back and let a human die because you refuse to seek medical attention for the human?
This isn't the dark ages, it's the 21st century, there's no excuse.

goldberg_sp Dec 17, 2005 03:45 PM

ok people im not dening the pets right for food or a vet there is simply no vets around us if there any vet around us i wouldnt ask you for help and there isnt any caring centers at all thats why i am asking for help but thanks anyway.

RFB Dec 17, 2005 05:58 PM

Where do you live? I'm sure if you give us a location someone can find a vet that's near enough to you.

PHBoxTurtle Dec 17, 2005 07:58 PM

I think people want to help your turtle but we can only do it if you do the legwork yourself. We cannot do it because we don't live with your turtle.

Please take this advice for the sake of your turtle......tell me via email or someone else you trust that you have met here, where you live so we can help you find a vet nearby or maybe there is a long-time turtle keeper who might be willing to help you and physically go over to your house and help the turtle. You need to do something for the turtle, or it may die. This might mean going out of your way to take it to a vet or spending the money needed to get it live insect food.

Until you find a vet and get it live insects, try this: soak it 3 times a day in lukewarm/tepid water about an inch deep for 10-15 minutes. Keep it warm. If you do not have a thermometer in the setup please get one so you know how warm the turtle is. It needs to be kept at about 80 during the winter months. SInce it is sick it probably has not had the correct temperature or diet.

I have written an online box turtle care book and you can read it to find out how to properly care for the box turtle. It is at www.boxturtlesite.org. Please check it out.

i live in saudi arabia in jeddah

StephF Dec 18, 2005 03:01 PM

Contact the zoo in Jeddah: they may be able to help you. They should have a veterinarian on staff: ask him/her for suggestions on where to take your pet for care.

>>i live in saudi arabia in jeddah

Are you certain this is a box turtle? How were you able to acquire one in Saudi Arabia? Is this a tortoise? One locally bought? How do you have this "box turtle" housed? If you do not have a special set up for the turtle it could be why it has become sick. It cannot live in the dry climate without a humid set up.

Please read my online box turtle care book at www.boxturtlesite.org/bxbook.html
Look at the pictures too and tell me what type of box turtle you have. Three-toed, Eastern, Western, Gulf Coast, what?

Has the vet considered giving the turtle injectable antibiotics?
You might call back & ask about that.. and hopefully the vet knows that injections can't be given in the back end of the turtle, they have to be given in the front end like the front legs.

Is that a photo of your turtle? If so you don't have a box turtle you have a tortoise. A greek? EJ what species of tortoise is that? Other than sulcata or larger I can't always recognize every species that exists.
What foods do you try to feed this tortoise? He's not going to eat bugs like my box turtles do that's for sure.
Got any roses? Hibiscus flowers? The few times my tortoise needed meds I was able to easily get them into her by hiding tablets inside a flower. Even when she wasn't eating well she never turned down a brightly colored flower.

That was my response when I saw that but then I thought I was on the other list.

That's a Greek tortoise in the photo.

Wow, your from Saudi Arabia. Now your writing makes sense. You do very well with English. What kind of turtle is it? Can you post a digital picture? someone with vet access here might be able to recommend treatment to a regular pet vet where you live. Is it cold at this time of year? Do you have access to roaches? We have lots here in Hawaii and the box do like them. All you need to do is place food out in a glass container overnight and you can capture roaches. They are not nice to touch, but you could knock them out first. Good luck and I'm impressed with you writing to this forum./Patsy
