Best Medication for burns

ChristianC Dec 13, 2005 03:44 PM

I purchased an adult breeding male anery from kingsnake classifieds with some serious looking burns. I was told it was only two small scabs but the wounds do not look good. I have been treating the wounds with the regular neosporin. I have recently read that I should be using the waterbased neosporin. Is there any other medicatin i should be using? I think he is going into a bad shed. Last night i noticed loose shedding on the bottom of the cage. It looks to have came from around the wound area. I was told by the seller that he would look as good as new after a few sheds and to keep him with his breeding female. I separated him but he is not happy about being away from the female i purchased him with. Should i keep him seperate or let him breed like he (and she) really wants to do. He is all over her when i put him with her.

Thanks,
Christian

here is another pic that shows the burn wound. Should i take him to the vet for antibiotics? He seems to act ok. Has anyone else seen a burn this bad and if so how did the snake recover?

Thanks

While your snake's burns are far from the worst I"ve seen, I would still recommend a vet visit.

Topical silvedine cream is probably the best, and your vet will probably provide this. The main reason for the vet visit is to get a proffesional hands-on examination to determine if further diagnostics, systemic antibiotics or what-not are needed.

Thank you for the reply. Looks like Bernie gets to go see the Vet. I'll post what info i get from the vet. I don't know how much i trust the local vet with reptiles so i will run the treatment by all you.

Thanks
