New Palpebrosus

reptilespawn Dec 14, 2005 08:02 AM

I just received my new p. palpebrosus.
I received 4 in all hoping that I can get a pair out of it. they are captive born and I was told that they are feeding on fish and some meat.
I want to get them started on the new mazuri diet and supplement that diet with other items. What is the best way to get them to start feeding on it? I haven't even tried yet. It is still on the way. I just wanted to get some ideas before starting.
Also, how much of a basking area do I need for these guys? I have read conflicting opinions.

thanks
Michael

All the hatchlings I have had just go after it. I will add that I have heard from more than a few that hatchling dwarfs are slower than other species totake the mazuri. Whether this is true or not I can't say. You might alo try some of the more common reptile pellets to start then switch them over.

My dwarfs rarely basked during the day, but DID bask alot under a red heat lamp at night. But I think other folks have had different experiences.

Thanks Chris

By the way I loved the book. I have heard that you are putting out an updated edition. Is this true and when is it due?

Right now i have the 4 in a large rubbermaid (3 ft by 1.25 ft) with about 1/3 of it land and 4-5 inch water depth. lots of greenery and a log just for fun. Should I add more land?

The book with Adam Britton should be out sometime early next year(in theory) and I've updated "The Ultimate Guide' for 2006. It's the third edition.

I think you have enough land. Temps?

I usually start alot of my hatchlings on crickets and live fish. As they settle in I use more food items. Doesn't usually take long.

as far as food. I have feeder fish in there, and i am going to try ground turkey with vitamin/ mineral supplement and calcium dust mixed within.

Would it be best to try placing the stationary food items in at night just before their lights go out?
