Salmon Pastel Boas

Reptile World May 18, 2003 05:57 PM

Someone is ofering me a pair of Salmon Pastel Boas at a good price. He doesnt have good pictures though, and I am not really familiar with this morph. I looked online and cant find any photos. I can find regular salmons and regular pastels, but none of the salmon pastel hybrid. If anyone can post a couple pictures or provide me with a link, It would be greatly apreciated. Thanks.

Or maybe not, but I would be very careful of anyone who is offering a Pastel Salmon that can not show you a picture of a snake to satisfy the reason why he is calling it a pastel Salmon. the pastel name is being so over used that it is not even worth acknowledging anymore. Jeff Ronnie produced a line od "pastel Dream" Boas that I was lucking enough to see offspring of last year with Doug Matsurick (sp) booth. And they themselves looked to be of a hypo line all by themselves. But others are just simply calling a pretty boa (and in some cases a normal looking boa) a pastel to add a few bucks to the cost. Ask for the genetics on the boa, who started the line, where he got it from and most of all have him take better photos and send them to you. If it seems to good to be true, then it is.
becareful about false claims, if the pastel is not a proven line then don't pay proven line price (although you did say it was a good deal) You might want to take a look at Jeff's Boaphile webpage, he may have a salmon X Pastel Dream boa on there.
Good Luck

well, he has pictures but they are all blurry. He showed me one that looked like his and it looked to me like a regular dark columbian, not light like a salmon. Is a true salmon pastel dream suposed to be light colored, or dark?

I have an idea of what a plain pastel would look like because I picked one up at maryland the other day, and that one is dark, but it has orange and pink highlights all over the side of its body. They were only 10 dollars more then the regular columbianbs also.

blurry pics are not a good sign. I know (believe me!) how
sometimes it's very hard to take good pics, but even with a
cheap camera, outside in the shade a nice un-blurry pic can
be taken... blurry pics can be a bad sign, that perhaps the
person has something tohide.

'pastel' is usually used to describe boas with a 'typical' look,
mainly, washed out, faded side medallions, typically
light-speckling. In the best cases, there is also
an addition of pink/orange hues. Just because a boa
has nice color, does not make it a pastel.
I would think a pastel salmon (and yes, there are some real
ones out there) would be even lighter than a normal salmon
(which are light, salmon/hypo removes and reduces the
black pigment) so the snake should not be dark IMO.
I would ask for better clearer pictures, buyer beware and
probably avoid this deal, unless you can get good
pics and more details on the lineage of the snake.
Good luck..

btw, I bought my unproven 'pastel-type' for $50, it was
sold to be as a salmon phase. lol

A Salmon Pastel should be bright and cleaner then a regular Salmon (In general) If the animal looks like a normal colombian then I would spend some time looking at the other websites of some of the Well Known Breeders and do some research on what the look should be. A purchase that is this big should be done right because for the most part, there are no return lines for the merchandise.
Good Luck

Well, from what I can make in the pictures, they are pretty dark. Not light at all like a salmon. Also, the asking price is 350 for the pair. EBV e-mailed me and said they have some for about $1000.00 ea. I guess they are normal pastels maybe?
