"THE" (Eastern King) match-up for 06' :

BlueKing Dec 14, 2005 03:59 PM

In reply to Keith's message from a few days ago: Here's a great matchup for 06: My speckled eastern female, from Columbia county, Fl. with a male that has the same speckling from the same locality that Nick (Foxturtle) was nice enough to loan me for the 06' breeding. Should result in some awesome looking babies (that will probably resemble weakly speckled OBKs?)
The top pic is Nick's male, the bottom pic (outdoor pic) is my female. Thanks,

Zee

Nice Zee.

The male is quite a looker. Is the area they are from a intergrade zone? Or are they pure easterns?

It is quite interesting to note that these kings occur in an area that lies right between the "Suwanees" and the "goinis", yet most of the kings (in that area) are usually black with white skinny crossbands and very little speckling usually only between the first two to three crossbands. Once in a (rare) while though, you can find them looking like the two I have pictured above. I think those are mostly pure easterns with a possible hint of suwannee in them (since their range is not too far away from suwanee land). Thanks,

Zee

There are several localities, one in particular near Columbus, GA
where in the speckling between the bands is very common. It can be a trait of intergrading between floridana (ie suwanee kings) but it also occurs dead in the middle of what would be considered "pure" getula range. Nice animals by the way! Below is a very poor photo of one of those Columbus area animals, they sometimes also have a chocolate/mahogany coloration on thier sides and very wide bands.

Thanks for the input! Always willing to learn. That's a nice animal there. Do you still have any of those (unique kings)?
They look almost like a weakly marked goini. Here's a pic of an F-1 animal, a 03'female , (from Len Krysko). She was hatched from two wildcaught goinis in the ANF. Looks a little like yours? Maybe?
