parsons i have a question on the incubating

matt15 Jul 23, 2003 09:07 PM

hey i was wondering why if the parsons have between 40 or 50 eggs why do they have such a low hatch rate. and also is that how it is in the wild or do most of them usually hatch. Also has anyone had lots of success breeding parsons chams and having most of the eggs hatch.
thanx a lot

Parsons chameleons lay alot of eggs but the reason there isnt many eggs hatched is that they take about 20 months to attually hatch out! Very long time. This is very there is less captive breeding because of the time and effort to hatch the eggs.

Actually, some breeders have produced parsoni with shorter incubations. Some suspect the really long incubations reported were more because of incorrect temps and humidity setups for eggs instead. But there have been so few produced in captivity no one really knows. Parsoni kept in captivity have laid eggs, but very few have developed or hatched. There's a lot to learn about the species.
