what makes a motley? i mean as far as markings?
I think only about 25% actually have REALLY good motley markings (consistant spotting) I am not sure on this but I think stripe and motley is the same gene. ALL should have absolutely no patterning on their stomachs. Perhaps someone can answer more thoroughly.

Examples of motley
I think what you meant to say was that motley and stripe are different genes which share the same locos on the chromozome. When the pair exist together you get a blending affect of the two traits.
As far as Markings go...
Most Motleys:
1. Have a completely patternless belly.
2. Have some sort of connected saddles on their dorsal.
Neither 1 or 2 are true in absolutely all cases. Some motleys have a few belly checks. Some motleys have absolutely normal dorsal patterns. What matters most is that they're homozygous for the motley gene (or het motley, het stripe). And plainbelly is the most important indicator (that is, a snake with a motley dorsal and a normally checkered belly is NOT considered a motley).
