Creamsickle....

phiber_optikx Dec 15, 2005 12:59 AM

I know most of you hate hybrids but I'll ask anyway. I plan on collecting an emoryi or two this spring and was wondering that if I bred it to my snow that would produce rootbeers correct? Rootbeers 100% dbl. het anery and amel. So breeding the offspring to each other would produce several things. Including amels, anerys, and a hybrid version of the snow. Would the amels be creamsickles or is there more to producing a creamsickle than making an amelanistic form of the emoryi?

Depends. As far as hybridization goes, the amels would definitely be creamsicles and the normals rootbeers and should so be named (lest the anti-hybrid crowd form a lynch mob ). If you're trying for the standard yellow-orange look of a creamsicle, though, I don't know what all is necessary to achieve that look, though my understanding is that the more a line is bred back into cornsnake lineage, the less of the creamsicle look shows through.

Yes the amels would be creamsicles.
The emoryi is what gives them the yellow/orange.
Like Kat said the more they are bred back to corns the more they loose the yellow/orange and begin to get more reds and hard to distinquish from true amels.
It would be ineteresting to see the anerys and snows.
I wonder what you would call an emoryi/corn snow.
Or an emoryi/corn anery for that matter.
Interesting.
Normal emoryi/corn = rootbeer
amel emoryi/corn = creamsicle
hypo emoryi/corn = cinnamon
Very intersting project.
I seriously need to get a few emoryis to get some fresh blood in my creams and cinnamons.

One of my fiesty little cinnamons and a stripe/motley cream.

I'll tell you what the cross snows and anerys look like in around 5 years or so But just to be certain of your response. Are you saying that the F2 generation (the first generation actually showing the amel trait) will retain the orange coloration the creams are known for?

Those F2's or first generation creams should exhibit the classic creamsicle look.
They should have the good emoryi influence.
Kind of like this one. A rerun pick but my first cream and my favorite.
