Snake Watching

I was wondering what'd be the best season, time of day, and areas to look for snakes? I live around woods and would love to see them in there natural habitat.

I live in North Alabama.

not positive about this, and it may be different since your in a different part of the country, but in my experience the best time to see snakes is spring when they have come out of hibernation and will be basking on rocks and whatnot. being near water always seems to be good too for garters. if its too warm out they wont be out cause they will be seeking shade under rocks and stuff. ive noticed a cool day the day after rain is the best time to see them because they need to soak up some sunlight to get warm and will be out in the open basking. try looking around marshes and small ponds.
