i have a leapord gecko and i was using sand in his tank but then my friends died from eating the sand so i changed to using bark but the same friend said that bark is also bad so i just wanted to know what i should use?

Tile, paper towel, newspaper... any of theese subtrates are better than sand...
you should never use sand (impactation)
