Not Eating??

pgross8245 Dec 15, 2005 06:54 PM

A friend has a leopard gecko that has stopped eating over the last 3-4 days. He has had it about 3 weeks and it was eating great until it started to shed. Nothing has been changed in the cage, and food is offered daily, but he justs looks at the crickets and ignores them. It this due to shedding? I don't have geckos, so thought I would ask those who might have more insight and real experience with this species sooner than a guess from me. Thank you for any input.

Yes, it is more than likely due to the animal shedding. They consume their shed, so even a day or so after it sheds, the gecko might not want to eat. Make sure that the crickets are taken out of the enclosure each time that he does not show any interest. Keeping offering the crickets/mealworms every night.

Thank you for your reply. I will tell him right away. It is my daughter's boyfriend and she bought him the gecko for a gift and he loves the little thing, so was quite worried.
