"Mocha" X "Yellowbelly" = "Superstripe"?

mahlon Dec 15, 2005 09:39 PM

Hey all, just wanted to bring this topic out for discussion as I noticed a few similarities in some posts and drew a few conclusions.

First off I saw this post from Jared Horenstein:

Post Title: "The Mocha Ball Python"

http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=953658,953658

"HEre is a new project I dont think we have shown before......I got a weird baby in 99 that had some different looks to her......Well she proved to be a dominant mutation in 2004 and again in 2005 she made some more spceial babies.........on top of a wicked combo....... "

Then several days later saw this by him as well:

Post Title: "Let's see..........I produced 2 already....1 in 04, 1 in 05 ......"

http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=957965,958617

"Both were produced from unrelated yellowbelly males.......to the same mother..........if that does not show you its a genetic combination......I am not sure what will.......
and no.........no pics of mom floating around..........sorry. "

Now lets state some facts with regards both the "Mocha" and "Super Stripe" Projects:

"Mocha" Project:
1) Aberrant female acquired by Jared Horenstein in 1999.
2) Proven to be Dominant in 2004, and again in 2005.
3) Has been used to create a "Wicked" combo by J.H.

"Super Stripe" Project:
1) Yellowbelly X abberrant Female = Superstripe
2) "Proven" in 2004, and again in 2005, both from different "Yellowbelly" fathers bred to same aberrant female
3) Pics of "Aberrant Mom" have never been shown/circulated

Ok, now I don't know about you guys, but seems pretty fishy to me.

Similarities between the two projects:
1) Both involve an "aberrant" female.
2) Both were proven in both 2004, and in 2005
3) "Superstripe" is a wicked combo, while the "Mocha" necessary for one of Jared's "Wicked" combos.

Now at this point, I'm heavily leaning towards the "Mocha" being the morph that along with the yellowbelly is a key ingredient in the "Super Stripe", there are just way to many similarities here to be otherwise, as well as the fact that as often as Jared posts on the boards, we had heard nothing
on the "Mocha" until now, even though it was proved originally in '04.

I could be really wrong here, anything is possible, but I think I'm hitting the nail right on the head here.

Let me know what you guys think, and Jared if you want to clear this up I'm sure we'd love to hear about the projects you got going on over there!

Thanks for looking,
Dan

Actually you are very observant, but.......not quite enough.....

The Mocha is a brand new project that I & Amir are working on.....and first let me correct somethign that you had in your post......There is in fact a combination morph resulting from a Mocha X Y.B. breeding........however i did not have the fortune or pleasure of hatching the little gem out.......I must pass the props on to Amir on that kick A$$ Jewel.........I will get some pics of of the combo for you all.........

And as for the mother of the stripe...........If you all really want to see her.........just send me $5 and i will email you a pic.........(lol...........just kidding.......), there will be pics of her online sooner or later( more like later ) mainly beacuse A LOT of people tried to make the super stripe in 05 after they heard about the looks of the mom....and again.....i was the only person to hatch out the Stripe.......so until someon eles hatches one out....or untili hatch my Super Stiripe male( hopefully this year ) she will stay under wraps...

Stay tuned for more from the Yellowbelly project!!!

Jared,

Cool thanks for the reply, like I said originally in my post, it was just a postulation, just took the few facts you've released to us and tried to draw some conclusions.

Good news on the Mocha project, put some pressure on Amir so we can see what's cookin with that project!

Also, can't blame you for keeping the Super Stripe mom a secret, those animals are unbelievable.

Thanks again,
Dan

By now we all know that your super stripes are designer morphs that are a combination of yellow bellys and your unknown 'secret' morph. (I think your secret morph is a female, is that correct?) In your breeding trials you've produced two female super stripes, but have you produced any more 'secret' morphs? Are any of them male? Have you been working towards producing any more 'secret' morphs? Or mainly producing more super stripes? Curious minds want to know.

The "secret morph" is the mother snake. In 2004 I produced a few aniamls that were somewhat similar to the mom all of which were females, but in 2005 i reproduced the mother morph in a single clutchmate that was a male.....and nice little porker to boot. I am going to try to reproduce both mutations again this year, but in all honestly i would be happy with a male Super Stripe.

I hope you have good luck with that this year. It's a pretty exciting morph. Though I, like everyone else I'm sure, is just itching to see what Mom looks like.
