Question about carpet pythons...

Cl0wn Dec 16, 2005 07:59 PM

What would be better for carpet pythons? more floor space or tall cages? I wanted to buy a hexagon (or octagon) 20 GL high tank that they sell at the pet store. I dont have a carpet python but im interested in getting one. Also if an animal is a diamond/coastal mix will that mean they will grow huge? I dont want a snake thats a small anaconda or something, I like the jungle ones though, how big will the jungles get?? Thanx for reading.

the size you mentioned may be okay for a baby, as long as you're able to offer a hot side w/ basking site as well as a cool side for thermoregulation. JCP's reach about 5-7', and will outgrow that setup quickly. I have a pair of yearlings in a 2'x4'x2' enclosure w/ a large manzanita branch spanning the entire length for plenty of climbing areas. Both snakes are thriving, and I rarely see them on the floor of the cage. I'll place one in an identical enclosure when they get a little bigger, and that should suffice for full grown adults.

My 4.5' male IJ is in a 2' square arboreal Neo with a hide box. He rarely goes on the bar, prefers the box. I'd keep up to an 8' animal in a 4x2x2 cage. My large coastals rarely climb. My JCPs sit at the top of their cage, but only because the heat source is there.

i have a 7 foot jungle and he like to climb alot. not all the time but most of the time. a 20 gallon tank will not last you long. when i first got mine i started him in the 20 long tank. he quickly out grew it. he now is in an 80 gallon tank. i would love to have something with more height but you know finatially i can't do it. but i do let him out to really stretch out. he is great with eating rats an being handled.
