50+ days and eggs starting to dent and some mold...any ideas?

Rob Jenkins Jul 23, 2003 10:17 PM

It's only been since last year since I hatched a gecko, but this has me dumbfounded. I've got a pair of eggs that are up around 50-55 days old and one started to dent this past weekend, so I thought it may be about to hatch. Well, it still hasn't and it started to get a bit of the fuzzy stuff on it yesterday. The second egg just started to dent a little yesterday as well.

Any ideas? I'm using the incubation instructions from Albey's site precisely. It bothers me, because I seem to have had better luck using vermiculite in the past, and may decide to go back to it. Even when they grew a tiny bit of mold, they always hatched.

A separate question; has anyone ever incubated in coco-husk such as Bed-A-Beast?

Thanks,

Not sure what to tell u about the eggs, but for the second question, I use bed-a-beast to incubate. I let it dry out, then sift it through a wire screen to take out any big chunks. It holds moisture pretty well, and I've had good luck with it. Good luck with the eggs, sorry I can't help.

I had a couple eggs go over 50 days looking good and then did just what u described. When i cut them open they didnt have a formed gecko in them and they went that long. Hope its not your case.
