I was goofing around at the San Antonio Zoo the other day and thought I would take a couple of depth of field "test shots".
Here's two otherwise identical pics of a Eyelash Viper, one at f/2.8 and another at f/10.
Notice how the added DOF actually changes the whole nature of the photograph. I think we, as herp photographers, assume more DOF is always a good thing. I don't think that is necessarily so.

One of the things I didn't like about my old point and shoot digital camera was the amount of depth of field I got, even at very low f/stops. Sometimes you want a little selective focus.
